Civil, Human and Immigrants’ Rights Advocates around the World

The United States has been struggling with the problem of immigrants for a long time now. In fact, this was a major talking point in the recent presidential elections of 2016.

The now incumbent, Donald Trump vowed to make the regulations guiding immigration into the United States strict. He even at some point suggested deportation of people from certain nations. However, the judicial system has thwarted his attempts to have people deported while others blocked from accessing the United States. What caught the attention of many people is probably the issue of immigrants through the Mexico border. Trump promised to erect a wall that blocks any illegal migrants into the U.S soil.

The southern border has for a long time been the channel through which undocumented workers of Hispanic origin enter the United States. However, amidst all this clamor is the issue of migrants’’ rights violations at the birder. Many migrants lose their lives or tortured at the border.

North West Immigrants’ Rights Project (NWIRP)

NWIRP stands for human rights regardless of where a person was born or their financial status. Their aim is protection from violence, calling out injustices and promoting unity in families.

Lacey and Larkin Frontera fund

It is a fund that offers support, financial or legal resources to other groups that fight for immigrant rights in Arizona and along the border with Mexico.

Two journalists founded it in 1970 to address issues of civil rights, right to freedom of speech as well as fair treatment and representation for immigrants in Arizona.

Michael Lacey and Jim Larkin have also recently dedicated a hefty amount of settlement money from a lawsuit they filed against the Maricopa County government for unfair imprisonment, to the continued funding of organizations with the same goal as theirs.

They aim to make sure deaths of immigrants at the border are reduced, that they are accorded fair treatment and access to basic services and education without discrimination.

Colorado Immigrants’ Rights Coalition (CIRC)

It is aimed at ensuring Colorado is a friendly and welcoming state to both immigrants and refugees. It was started in 2002 and involves membership participation of various groups such as the immigrants, labor, the youth, entrepreneurs, religious groups, and other organizations.

Amnesty International USA

It involves movements around the world to fight for human rights such as the elimination of the death sentence, the protection of those who defend human rights, rights of refugees, police brutality and use of deadly force, human rights and national security, eradicating gun violence, sexuality, gender and identity and protection of vulnerable groups and individuals.

Lawyers committee for human rights (LCHR)

LCHR focuses on the legal aspect of the protection of human rights, the ensuring outlined legal procedures and guidelines are followed and respected.

LHCR also sponsors witness program that assists activists around the world with recording tools like camcorders so that they can document and record cases of human rights violations.
