George Soros is a liberal billionaire, who has great influence on American politics. Over the years, he has been supporting non-profit foundations. The prominent investor supports these groups through his Open Society Foundation (OSF). Mr. Soros has donated at least $33 million in one year to different established groups having grassroots membership and activists in Ferguson. According to OSF’s Director, Kenneth Zimmerman, the foundation is not accountable for the protests witnessed in Ferguson despite the activist groups being recipients of OSF’s funds. The Missouri event, which was supposed to be a one-day criminal protest, was quickly transformed into 24 hours of chaos. Zimmerman said that the Ferguson incident was a reflection of lack of accountability and democratic participation. He explained that since its inception, OSF has offered support to various groups with the objective of promoting accountability in both society and government through inclusiveness and democracy. However, he said that they lack control of what happens during the activism events like those experienced in Ferguson, Cleveland and Staten Island.
