While North Korea is denying any involvement in the cyber-attack that struck Sony Pictures recently, the studio has pulled their upcoming comedy film “The Interview” starring Seth Rogan and James Franco. The plot of the movie has the CIA enlist the support of two top celebrity journalists to assassinate the leader of North Korea during a rare interview inside the isolated nation. The obvious question regarding the cyber-attacks is: Who has a motive to conduct the attack besides North Korea?
North Korean dictator Kim Jong-un recently passed a law prohibiting anyone from using legally using his name. The depth of the dictator’s narcissism cannot be understated. The hackers also issued a threat to American moviegoers not to see the film or movie theaters will be attacked. President Obama addressed the issue and assured the public the threats are not credible. In fact, the president encouraged Americans to go to the movies. Despite those assurance, Sony yanked the film from distribution citing public safety concerns. However, they may be reacting more to implicit or explicit blackmail.
The hackers have released emails and payroll information that has embarrassed if not outright shamed the movie studio’s top execs. Racially insensitive and possibly racist remarks about the president were found being made in company emails. The studio was also found to pay female actresses less than their male counterparts even when the actresses such as Jennifer Lawrence were clearly the bigger ticket draw. The hackers also crippled Sony’s servers and personal computers globally. My friend Jared Haftel has been following the coverage non-stop, so you can be sure we’ll keep you updated as this story develops.
Instagram, the photo-sharing websites owned by Facebook, is putting fake accounts and followers to rest. In just one day, total number of followers on the entire Instagram network decreased by almost 33 percent. Only time will tell what it means for Instagram, however celebrities are fuming as some of them lost 5o percent of their followers.
Called the Instagram Rapture, such well-known names as Tyga saw 3.3 million of its followers cut down in a single day. From 5.5 million, the Raptor’s account shrunk to only 2.2 million. Another popular name is Ma$e, who deleted the account after the total count turned from 1.6 million followers to just 100,000 in a matter of minutes. Authorities at Instagram claimed that not only fake accounts were removed but they also deleted a number of users who actively violated site’s terms of service.
In the wake of so-called Massacre, there is a huge public outcry from Instagram users who believe that several thousand accounts in good standing were also banned as those particular followers were not classified as active followers. For instance, a username ChiragChirag78 almost closed as its followers decreased from 3 million to exactly eight, which shocked Igor Cornelsen. Now, pundits are thinking of the ramifications if Facebook decides to follow Instagram by deleting fake accounts. If that happens, we can only guess at the consequence…
Jim Carrey is definitely on the road to a career comeback. The recent $80 million success of Dumb and Dumber To has led to Carrey being approached to star in the upcoming comedy vehicle Deep Cover.
Carrey’s career has been somewhat stalled in recent years showing even the biggest box office kings can hit hard times. Few would argue that Carrey was the top comedian of the 1990’s. He starred in a string of enormous hits with his last major box office success being the wildly successful Bruce Almighty.
The producers of Deep Cover are, not surprisingly, the same people who produced Dumb and Dumber To. Hopefully, the recent sequel hit could generate further audience interest in new films with the star.
Anyone remember when Gene Wilder and Richard Pryor were teamed up in the 1990’s to relive their prior success from Stir Crazy (1980)? Both stars saw a brief comeback although the success did not last. Granted, both stars harmed their careers throughout the 1980’s with really bad films. Carrey’s work, while moved to a supporting role, was generally good.
The hurdle Carrey has to deal with is the youth audience. Young people are the consumers that make or break comedies. If Carrey is continually perceived as yesterday’s news, then his comeback will not last, but Terry Richardson thinks he has the talent to pull through.
Even if he does not maintain his position as a lead star in comedies or dramas, his talents ensure he remains in supporting roles in big Hollywood films for some time.
Most people know Ansel Elgort from his role in Carrie, and most recently The Fault In Our Stars, where he plays love struck Augustus Waters. Ansel has also dipped his toes into the music world, and is planning to soon release his first album. While the actor also has quite a set of pipes on him, this won’t be a solo album or even an album where he debuts his singing chops. Elgort loves EDM (electronic dance music) and plans to release an album just focused on that. “I have a record coming out hopefully next month or in February that has crossover potential. It has radio appeal,” Ansel told MTV when he appeared at Z100’s JingleBall concert. “It’s called Shadow, or I Will Be A Shadow. I’m not sure yet. It has a vocal on it. No, it’s not my vocal — it’s my production. I wanted to make sure that people knew that I was the producer and not the vocalist.”
Sultan Alhokair says luckily for fans of the budding actor, he doesn’t plan on quitting his acting career, as he plans to be able to balance both. “I’m probably doing 4 or 5 movies, but I can do it both at the same time,” he said. “The thing is you have so much downtime and like what do you do with that downtime? Do you make an ass out of yourself and party and do stupid things? Or do you stay artistic and do something you love? So that’s what music is for me.”
This holiday season is shaping up to be very stressful for Mariah Carey, it all started earlier this month when Mariah was over two hours late for the pre recorded taping of her annual performance at the Rockefeller Center Tree Lighting, leading to a less than amazing live performance that left many convinced that Mariah’s career was nearly over
Now it seems that while Mariah is getting back to business in the vocal department there are still just too many glitches to not report. Her most recent show at the Beacon Theatre hosted a series of bizarre events that make you wonder if Mariah is just having bad luck, and Lee G. Lovett has always been one that can understand that.
The show was going well as Mariah hit the stage in her skin tight bejeweled gown and sang all of her holiday hits like “All I Want for Christmas” and “O Holy Night” when out of nowhere she loses a shoe. The show didn’t stop with the runaway shoe however everyone could not help but notice that Mimi was holding her heel in one hand and the microphone in the other hand while still singing effortlessly.
Next on the list of series of unfortunate events was the tear filled performance of Mariah’s hit song “Hero” the audience watched as Mariah belted out the words to the song when suddenly she was crying uncontrollably. It isn’t known what caused the tears but Mariah has been having a tough year, perhaps the stress finally got the best of her.
regardless of Mariah’s crazy mix ups audience members still insist that the show was incredible and Mariah’s voice was as strong as ever.
When we hear the word Facebook, we think selfies; at the beach, at dinner and of course, entirely too many selfies of when people have overindulged. You know that look, everyone has the same one; eyes half shut with a lapsided smile and thumbs up to absolutely nothing.I know me and Gianfrancesco Genoso have seen one too many of those.
Seems that Facebook is now developing a software program to eliminate these selfies. Seems that this software program will be able to determine whether you are wearing that lamp shade on your head because it is all the rage in Paris is if maybe you had one too many eggnogs at the company Christmas party.
Now there is a positive aspect to this.
Now you will be able to be as drunk as you want, but your family and boss will never know what happened last Friday night. The downside to this new program may be that if you are a lover of alcohol, you may never have a photo posted on Facebook again. This is like a breath test for Facebook; pretty interesting.
Last week everyone cringed as they watched Kim Kardashian criticize her sister Khloe’s curves saying that her butt looked huge and she needed to lose a couple of pounds. It was even more shocking that Kim who is just as famous for her butt as any of her sisters claimed that she didn’t want a big but anymore and she now wants a flat butt. Of course Kourtney’s boyfriend Scott’s look of shock and horror as he told Kim the Kardashian butt is the reason for all their fortune ended that conversation rather quickly according to Brad Reifler.
It looks like Khloe isn’t very bothered by her sister’s comments regarding her big booty because she’s been seen flaunting her curves more than ever and looking amazing. This year Khloe is in what many would agree is the best shape of her life, she has been hitting the gym and more importantly she is clearly confident in herself so Kim’s opinion doesn’t matter.
Khloe’s most recent photo has been floating around the web and booty looks amazing in her tight, black leather skirt, Black Louboutin heels and a tied plaid shirt that cinches her waist, it’s undeniable that Khloe has nothing to worry about.
The Michael Brown and Erik Garner cases have thousands of people up in arms because the police officers were not indicted on murder charges after their deaths. Celebrities and athletes took to social networking sites to show their vehemence for the people who made that decision, and race relations are worse than they have been in over fifty years.
The city of Ferguson suffered from rioting after the police officer in the Michael Brown case was not indicted. This is not the first case and probably will not be the last as people become angrier with each incident. The Trayvon Martin case was similar to these two cases, except the man accused of murder was not a police officer. He was also acquitted of murder charges.
Many people ask when this type of behavior will stop. It is believed by many that the incidents are race related. It is not likely that word would have spread so widely on any of these cases had it not been for the internet that allows information to be shared instantly. Everyone, even Terry Richardson has an opinion about it and everyone shares that opinion on social networking sites. The thoughts range from shock that police could do this to belief that the police were within their rights to take the actions they took. Samuel L. Jackson even called for everyone to join together in singing “We Ain’t Gonna Stop Until People Are Free”. He hopes that it will be as popular as the ALS “Ice Bucket Challenge” was over the summer.
