Not only is he a film producer, but Thor Halvorssen is also a renowned human right activist. Activism is a course that he pursued from when he was an adolescent. Back in 1989, he organized opposition to apartheid in South Africa. It is after his father became a political prisoner in Venezuela that Halvorssen became involved fully in the promotion process and the individual rights.
Halvorssen founded the Human Rights Foundation based in New York after the shooting of his mother in 2004 during a political protest. This foundation dedicates itself to liberating all political prisoners and encourages tolerance and democracy in Latin America. From the time that HRF got established, it has been able to secure the release of about seven prisoners of conscience. It has also succeeded in providing evidence to the Truth Commissions as well as submitting amicus briefs in some of the major international human rights cases. HRF has also been able to publish two books on individual rights and the responsibilities of the state.
Halvorssen has worked together with Democratic activists such as Mart Laar and Garry Kasparov. Thor Halvorssen has also founded Oslo Freedom Forum where he sits as the CEO. This forum is an annual worldwide human right gathering that is spectacular. Since its formation seven years ago, the festive has been taking place in Oslo. From 2009, Mr. Halvorssen became listed as a patron of On Own Feet, a children’s movement for peace. It is a group based in Czech that operates by facilitating the bilateral relationship between adolescents and children in Poland, Canada, Czech Republic, Norway, and Slovakia with those who come from countries such as Afghanistan and Iran that are war-torn.As a film producer, Thor Halvorssen has produced a film known as Hammer & Trickle that revolves around the power of humor, satire, and ridicule.
